Behind and to the left of Mr. Row are three other men working with papers and ledgers and standing at a long, high table. In front of the table is a smaller table on which are numerous papers, stamps, pens, inkwells, and a glass holding paper clips. Behind Mr. Row is an open vault door. The wooden frame around the vault door is ornate and includes an arched frame and center filial over the top of the door. Behind the three unidentified men is another high table up against the back wall. A crank-style pencil sharpener is attached to one end of the table. Attached to the wall behind that table is a large clock in a wooden frame. A sign on the clock reads “U. S. Observatory Time Hourly by W. U. Tel. Co.” To the right of the clock, a framed display of medals and buttons from uniforms is hanging over what appears to be either a pass-through window or an open doorway blocked by the table. A portrait of a man who is partially bald is hanging on another wall. A smaller version of this portrait may also be seen in image number KL 054-393. A day calendar for “Tue 4 Jun,” and advertising “Coates & Robinson,” hangs under the portrait.
