    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[This elevated view of the Mississippi River, railroad tracks and the Julian Dubuque Monument, was taken looking south, down river.  A small railroad bridge is clearly visible. Four men have just walked north across the bridge. Closer to the foreground of the image, two groups of people may be seen. One group of men may have been repairing the tracks. Two small buildings are visible on the right side of the tracks. Row boats and other debris may be seen on the river bank across the tracks from the buildings.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[The photographer indicates that this view was taken from the Illinois Central tracks. The multistory, brick shot tower is visible in the left of the image. Constructed in 1856, it suffered from a fire in 1911 which burned the interior as well as the lookout tower which had been constructed on its top. The smoke stack of the Standard Lumber Company may be seen in the background. This image was colored by the photographer. The number 1336 is written on a label that has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide. ]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[A woman and man are seated on the side of a partially submerged steam engine that has tipped over into waters of the Mississippi that have covered tracks near the Dubuque water front.  Another woman is standing on the tracks. The engine overturned on April 14, 1916 due to high water that eroded the track bed. Five crewmen escaped injury by jumping off the locomotive. The number “2” on the front of the engine is visible near the water line. The number 1342-b is written on a label that has been stuck to the lower left corner of the slide. ]]></dcterms:description>
