The front of the building faced University Avenue. Dedicated on April 25, 1907, the building was named after Cornelius M. Steffens, a former president of the institution. The structure was demolished in 1982. Dubuque College is now known as the University of Dubuque. Constructed in 1858 of cut limestone, this three story building held the offices of the Surveyor of Customs, Post Office, Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. District Court. Arches are visible over the main windows and several chimneys are visible on the roof. The B &amp; I Building, also known as the Bank and Insurance Building, may be seen behind the Custom House and Post Office.
